Commerce Towers Investigation – Emergency Shoring, Sampling, Sounding & Testing

Project Description
Commerce Towers is a luxury, premier residential high-rise in Houston, Texas. The twenty-five story building is an historic structure built in the 1920’s. The building was experiencing distress conditions and required a hands-on investigation into the causes.

Assessment and Shoring
SCS performed a survey of the building façade elements with our engineer via swing stage scaffolding. Swing stages were erected and two drops were completed to observe typical conditions. Upon observation, 4 more drops were made to review additional areas, and shoring was installed in a critical area of distress.

Performance on a Historic High-Rise Structure
Proper planning and attention to detail were critical in the installation of the swing stages and the review of critical areas of the structure. SCS and our engineer performed a thorough review to ensure the integrity of this historic structure.
